So Summer is apparently coming to an end but I feel here in Wellington its only just starting. It seems to have been that way over the last 5 years or so. A lovely March but a crappy January which according to the seasons that’s summer! However it’s coming to an end and the summer days get shorter.
I would like to say however that this does not always bring happiness for the mothers or even fathers for that matter. School holidays have come and gone and the kids are back at school thank goodness. Because really the stay at home mums don’t get a holiday and wonder why they can’t enjoy it. Actually there is no rest it’s the same and the kids and husband are around for longer like all day… Its not that you don’t love them but YOU NEED A REST TOO!
For those of you that are struggling to stay happy, not really depressed but feels sad for no known reason. Everything in your life seems pretty good, but there’s erm… something… you know…
Sometimes this happens because your liver has probably had enough, what with Christmas and celebrations. A tired liver can make you feel cranky. Chinese treat the liver when someone is depressed. Often a goodl constitution herb is Siberian Ginseng, or Blupleurum. Take these for about a month and see how you go. St Mary’s milk thistle can help restore your liver and protect.
If you get cranky at a regular time, cyclic, and you feel as though you are going to snap, I always use Kava kava, it takes the edge off the snappiness and can help you sleep. I find it particularly good for PMT, a day or two before the bleed. CAUTION Do not take if on ant-depressants.
St John’s wort is often used for depression but is also used for neuralgic pain, ie, sciatic or pins and needles pain. It helps sooths the neurons in the signalling. However a CAUTION Do not take if on anti-depressants. 3 months is a good start but like antidepressants you need to come off them slowly.
For other worriers of anxiety attacks, aconite is useful, 30c from a chemist, it is homeopathy but it works as does rescue remedy. Oat straw tea daily also helps calm the nerves. And sometimes it’s as simple as a daily dose of magnesium. These help calm the brain waves, and I have known in my clinic for magnesium to calm teenagers through the worst time.
If a vegetarian and sometimes feel trembly or anxious then perhaps it is time to check in with the levels of B12. Can take it sublingually or get a shot from your doctor. This helps the nervous system.
If are stressed at work and have a lot on – so to speak, think of a good B vitamin combination. Ideally best ingested together as a group. And as always good fish or flaxseed oil helps everything.
Pass this on to anyone you may feel needs a boost :_)
