The Gut, How important it really is:
I trust you had a good week and are still implementing some of the self-care exercises, or even starting some yoga. That is also for the peace of mind and quietening of body. Holding the stillness of the postures, it can feel really calming.
Now I was talking to a friend of mine about research she has just been reading with the link to learning difficulties and gut flora or health.
Much of the issue is with our new wheat, (Triticum aestivum) this was engineered by Nobel Prize winner – Norman Borlaug. This was shown to be far more pest resistant and high yielding wheat. Unfortunately it is high in a lectin WGA. It works by binding with N-acetyl D glucosamine in insects and disrupts their cell structure and kills them. This lectin does damage to N-a D gl containing cells, and this is mostly in the gut, lungs, connective tissue in joints, brain cells and organs. So causing inflammation and leading on to auto-immune diseases. IBS, Arthritis, mental and behavioural conditions (hippocampal cells), asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and skin conditions. WGA inhibits the repair of cells through normal usage, so they start leaking mucosa which normally aids cell repair. (Miyake,K. et al. Lectin-based food Poisoning, A new mechanism of protein toxicity. PLoS ONE. 2007; 2(8):e687)
Everything is about how well we digest our food, how we assimilate our nutrients from the food. Making all the cells in our body work to their optimum. Our gut bacteria is where it all begins. If the mothers gut bacteria is under par, then the child likely is. This has been linked with autistic children. If we can start cleaning up our diet, even help work with the government to change the basic wheat seed or something more useful to humans. The Italian wheat is the purest to what it used to be so buy Italian pasta to feed the family. An aside: BBC Knowledge look at pasta as a complex carbohydrate and fibre content. Served hot fresh pasta and the body uses the carbohydrate or stores it as fat. Reheated pasta, “leftovers” eaten is actually more fibre available than carbohydrates. So if you like pasta have it the following day and there isn’t so many calories but instead a help to the body by raising the fibre content.
Another hint to help your gut bacteria is either taking probiotics but they aren’t catered for your own special cocktail of flora, however as reported on Trust me I’m a Doctor they found that by eating porridge for 4 weeks every day you produce your own unique flora. Thus making you less susceptible to diseases and using much more of your nutrients to fight of infections and stress. Ideally best to evacuate your bowel at least once a day if not twice. The quicker it goes through the more efficient is the bowel. Although diarrhoea is not good. Other foods that promote your own flora is pickled cabbage – sauerkraut, vinegars, miso soup, fermented foods, kimbuchu tea.
Look after your insides and they will look after you. 🙂

Your gut is also known as your inner wisdom. It is the sixth sense and a quiet inner voice. You should not take your inner knowing as a magic switch that you can turn on when you necessitate enlightenment or guidance, rather you have to follow your hunch that can tell your rational mind where to look at a later time. Yup, you can’t control your thinking. But you can implement your extrasensory perception in order to come up with the appropriate answer. Thus, I would suggest that you should trust your gut, that can help you to find the direction and intention.
