Arthritis.  What can be done…

Last week I spoke about the candida diet, how it effects the body and mind.  A way to find out if you have it is to take a glass of water to bed with you and don’t drink it but when first waking up gather some saliva in your mouth and then spit into the glass.  You want to notice if it swims then all is well, if it sinks pretty quickly that’s not good and a regime of what I spoke of last week will help clear the candida.  However if it slowly strings down, this is not so bad and staying away from sugar and other carbohydrates would help.  Check again in 3 weeks and see how it is.

Now Arthritis, there are several; Rheumatoid arthritis – this is an auto immune disease and the inflammation turns against the body and begins to seize the joints.  This is also symmetrical, so  thumbs or both hips, etc.  It is painful and often flares when you are stressed.  Inflammation is an acid state in the body which brings on this swelling of the joints.  Often the best way is to eat as many alkalising foods as possible.  Whilst minimising the acid forming foods which exasperates the condition.  If possible try a vegetarian diet for a while.  Can eat fish as this isn’t quite so acid forming as meat is.  Drinking lemon water really helps as well.  Even though lemons and limes are acid the body converts to an alkaline state where it then reduces the effect of acid on the body.  Acid is considered as a free radical and this breaks down cells from the outside in, breaking down the fat membrane around every cell.  Take fish oil or flaxseed oil.  The omega 3 fats protect against free radical damage. Turmeric and curcumin are two very potent anti-inflammatories and reduce the actual swelling.  As well as protecting the DNA before it gets transcribed into the RNA (this sends building blocks to the appropriate places).  Vitamin C is also an antioxidant and can also reduce inflammation.  Magnesium is another useful mineral as this lowers the tension in the body, known as an antispasmodic mineral.
Osteoarthritis is more about damage or over use of joints.  Example: If you damaged your hands in an accident, or have over used certain joints then these become corroded and the body starts by immobilising the joint to cause less damage. 
Arthritis is an autoimmune disease and what this means is that the immune system has clicked into overdrive and is now over working and trying to stop the body from damaging further or is attacking its own cells as it believes it is foreign.  This can occur through too much stress, especially emotionally as well as physically.  By physically I also mean inside the body, so being careful about what you put in to it.  Stay away from processed foods and try to eat whole foods like our mum’s and grandmothers used to feed us.  🙂
