Balance in the body…
I have talked a lot about diets and food. Anti-oxidants, free radicals, alkalising diet, keeping balance on the inside. How stress is a factor on the digestion. We know that when we get nervous our stomach starts to churn. We get butterflies etc. the digestion is very sensitive to moods and stress.
Stress also comes from injury and pain. The longer your body is in chronic stress the more free radical damage is being done. The body becomes an acid state. Joints become more painful. The body doesn’t relax. It stays tense and the central nervous system (CNS) never really relaxes. Stress is also present in long hard exercise and again, Nothing In Excess, Everything In Moderation.
I use a modality called Ortho-bionomy®, this has its roots in osteopathy but has evolved. The name means Ortho – to straighten or to balance, Bionomy – the study of the body. It works with the body to find the place of comfort, or tensionless space and holds the body there until a rebound is felt in the tissue. Generally we find this has released the muscle with no pain and only comfort.
The structure as a whole is taken into consideration and a path to balance is found. This method was devised by a man named Arthur Lincoln Pauls. He resided in America mostly although he was a British trained osteopath. He wanted to know why his fellow martial artists went regularly to an osteopath or chiropractor and not have their issue solved.
He read about spontaneous positional release (SPR) by Kent – an American Osteopath. By holding a joint in a particular way for 90 secs the joint will release and self-correct. So Arthur evolved this concept and produced Ortho-bionomy®.
I have seen amazing results and resolutions; from a chronic back pain and whip lash of 15 years to no more pain at all, to gentle change in social phobia to the point of going to the movies and having no more attacks.
It is always a pleasure to see a change in the structure and mood for the better. There are clips on YOU TUBE. For you to see. The other beauty about this therapy is that the self care exercises are so easy and gentle. It is easy to do and helps keep the body out of pain and tension. Thus not having to contend with the stress of the pain. Always trying to protect yourself so you don’t get banged, or nudged. This takes its toll eventually making chronic pain very emotional. Other parts start seizing up and limping or over compensating occurs and imbalance comes on.
Have a look and next week I will explain some self-care exercises.
Have a good week.
