Hello all, I trust you had a lovely Waitangi Day, sadly the weather was variable all over New Zealand. From 31 °C in the Hawkes Bay to sadly 18°C in Wellington, with of course wind…..
SO Last week I mentioned Candida – I explained this very briefly, as I said its mould and this mould can grow within the muscles, organs except the heart it seems, much like cancer. Symptoms are cravings for sugar, not just a fancy a bit of choc kind of craving, rather a I HAVE TO HAVE SUGAR craving, so much so you will always make sure there are sweet things in the house or you’ll drive to a gas station and get sugar. No vinegar or preserved foods. No bulk foods as these can have small traces of mould themselves. Even orange kumara are too sweet along with tomatoes, carrots. A restriction on carbohydrates is ideal as these can turn into sugar into the body. Interestingly BBC Knowledge did a test regarding pasta. When having eaten hot and freshly cooked pasta the body turns it into energy, so go on a long run about 90 ish minutes after eating and use it up. If the pasta is eaten cold (hmmm that cold pasta salad that people love to take to BBQs) this is more used as fibre and carbohydrate. However if you then reheat pasta using the pasta from the night before the body uses it predominantly as fibre and helps the whole bowel regularity and all the other benefits of fibre in the diet. So on the candida diet of restrictive carbohydrates eating warmed up pasta is a way round it. Olive oil stops the mould from adhering to the bowel wall. It can grow amongst the folds of the villi (small protrusions in the bowel wall to take up nutrients). It can also grow up through the brain stem, or in lungs, anywhere mostly. It happens because of stresses on the body. From too many antibiotics, alcoholism, birth control pill, unhealthy bowel flora, taking steroids, living a mentally and emotionally stressed life.
As I have talked about before:- how detrimental stress is to the body, lowering the immunity of the body and so this can lead to an overgrowth of candida. The brain will feel fogged and sluggish. You will get irritable and moody. Once you start a regime to combat the candida the die-off will make you feel yukky, headachy, nausea, but after a while the brain will clear, the muscles will become more fluid and less achy. There will be less headaches, less cravings and you will feel overall clearer and lighter.
By taking 4 different supplements as mentioned in blog 35 rotate every 4 days. This is because the candida adjusts and becomes resilient if taken longer and therefore less effective on the mould.
If you like to drink the only alcohol that can be consumed is vodka with fresh grapefruit juice (no added sugar or squeeze your own). Lemons help as do limes but not any other fruit unfortunately. It may take up to 3 months depending on how bad it is. If you need advice email me.
Next week I will talk about arthritis and how to help in a dietary way to minimise the symptoms.
